Mark's preferred medium is sculpture, primarily in stone and metal. Often his stone sculptures are made from a soap stone that is readily available in the Southern Oregon Applegate area. This soft stone ranges in color from blue-gray to brown to jet black. Whenever possible Mark sculpts in alabaster and his favorite stone, marble. Most of Mark's metal sculptures are constructed like a body: a strong wire framework supports the additional layers of metal that are painstakingly added until the sculpture is complete.
However, Mark is also an accomplished leatherworker and has made purses, diaper bags, wallets, and moccasins, among other items, for his friends and family. He was trained in the art of saddle making and uses that knowledge to create and decorate leather objects that are practical as well as beautiful. All of the art shown on this page are original works of the imagination, created for Mark's pleasure as well as that of his friends and family.
Commissions are happily accepted. If you are interested in purchasing one of works of art shown here or commissioning a sculpture, please send us an e-mail at oregonwildhair@hotmail.com for a price list.
